“Guava” is a work that emerges as an act of resistance and self-affirmation, questioning the simplistic and reductionist constructs that have defined Black, feminine, and Caribbean identities from external perspectives.

The act of consuming guavas becomes a gesture laden with meaning—a bridge between the personal and the collective, the local and the global.

In this context, the guava rises as a complex symbol: a fruit that encapsulates the “lies” and historical distortions imposed upon Cuban and Caribbean culture.

The use of the English title, Guava, emphasizes the tension between the internal meaning of our experiences and the narratives shaped from the outside.
