Identity, as the awareness an individual holds of themself, is constantly shaped by other identities—beginning within the family and passed through generations.

We call this inheritance tied to our origins.

This video performance questions the origins of otherness (recognizing the self as an “other”) and the body’s resistance from a self-referential perspective.

It reflects on how transcultural processes from African and Spanish diasporas in Cuba have shaped my identity.

Using a black crayon, I trace the structural lines of my face and shoulders until I blend into the dark background.

Each line begins at a specific point on the body, performing a self-designation of the cross.

The video places me between two boundaries: a black wall (physical emptiness) and the camera (a virtual space that infinitely replicates the image).

Alongside the repetitive gesture, the piece reflects on how values are perpetuated—values that either question or affirm identity.
